If you or your child is planning to participate in sports through a youth league or in your Cohasset, Hingham, Hull and Scituate, MA area school, you’ll be required to obtain a sports physical. This physical must be performed by medical professional prior to registration to make sure that every person participating is physically capable and to make sure that it’s safe for all the participants.
When you go to get the physical, it is usually administered in two sections: a medical report that outlines your past injuries and other conditions and a physical that is performed by a licensed physician. The results of both sections will determine your eligibility to participate.
What Happens When You Get a Sports Physical With Health Express?
The physical will determine whether you have, or previously had any number of conditions. These conditions include: high blood pressure, fainting spells, prior broken bones, etc.
The health history asks about some of the following:
- Emergency contact details
- Any family history of illness or disease
- Prior illnesses and injuries you’ve sustained
- Any heart or cardiovascular problems
- Allergies (seasonal or otherwise)
- History of previous head injuries
The physical exam portion will allow the physician to see if anything is out of the ordinary that might affect your ability to participate:
- Heart rate and rhythm
- Acute joint pain
- Spinal curvature
- Raised blood pressure
- Reflex issues
